Need advice on this girl I met… is this a scam?

Met this girl on Bumble, and we’ve been chatting for like a day. Things are going alright, but it’s getting a little weird. She keeps asking for pictures of me smiling or videos of me talking. Says I look like her boyfriend who passed away and that she has PTSD, etc. Anyone else think this is shady or am I overthinking it?

Just a heads up… new posts in this forum get attention from scammers who might DM you claiming they know ‘experts’ who can help with your situation (usually for a fee). Don’t fall for it and keep all advice public here on the thread where everyone can see it.

Basic rules for this forum: no sharing personal details like phone numbers or real names. Let’s keep the space respectful too. If you spot any rule-breaking, hit that ‘report’ button, and we’ll take care of it.

If she’s already asking for personal photos and dropping these big stories, it could be a red flag.

Yeah, it all feels kinda rushed, you know?

Feels off… just leave, honestly.

‘Feels off… just leave, honestly’, haha, that made my day!

What do you mean?

Even if it’s not a scam, it doesn’t sound like it’ll end well.

Now she’s asking for a video of me showing my surroundings and talking… creepy!

Don’t send videos of yourself talking or showing your surroundings. With AI, it’s easy for people to edit videos into something you didn’t intend. Happened to a friend, they made her face look like it was in a different video with her voice and everything. Better just stop talking to her. Once they have those videos, who knows what they can use them for.

Once had someone ask me to send a video saying the date and everything. Felt super sketchy, so I just said no.

Not sure if it’s a ‘scam’ exactly, but it doesn’t sound like a great situation.

If she’s still mourning her ex or dealing with PTSD, she might not be ready for a real relationship. Her saying you look like her ex is a lot.

Or if she’s just making all this up for sympathy, it’s not a good start. Either way, I’d be cautious.

@Lovejones
Yeah, that makes sense.

Dating apps are full of scammers now. Probably best not to send any pics or videos until you’ve met the person a few times.

True. I only sent a basic pic of my face, and the videos don’t show much in the background. She just prefers I reply with voice or video, which is kinda strange.

Even if it’s not a scam, it’s pretty creepy behavior.

Exactly! I don’t even know what to do here.

Best thing? Stop talking to her.

@JAMESZ
I actually did tell her no more pics or videos, and she agreed.

Try calling her instead. Does she have a local number? If she can’t talk on the phone or meet up, I’d just move on.
