Is Gonift legitimate?

I got an email from OfferUp in my main email saying I have a $30 credit at GoNift from them. I’ve been using OfferUp for a while, but lately I hardly ever open emails because I’m afraid they might be scams. Did anyone else get this email? Is it real?

I got the same email too. I am always too careful therefore I assume it is a scam because why would they send random people free money? In addition, you need to visit an external website which is a big red flag for me.

I received a similar email from OfferUp about a $30 credit at GoNift, and after researching this, it appears that the GoNift offer is likely not a legitimate gift.

You’re wise to approach emails offering unexpected rewards or discounts, especially when they come to your main email address. Here’s why the OfferUp email promising a $30 GoNift credit might raise concerns:

Limited Confirmation of Legitimacy: There haven’t been widespread reports confirming that OfferUp is currently running a promotion offering a GoNift credit.
Focus on Security: Normally, OfferUp doesn’t require users to click on email links to access account-related promotions or rewards.

To determine if the email is legitimate, follow these steps:

Directly Check OfferUp: Log in to your OfferUp account directly using the app or website (not through any links in the email). Look for notifications or announcements regarding a GoNift credit promotion.
Contact OfferUp Support: If you remain uncertain, reach out to OfferUp customer support directly through their app or website. They can verify the authenticity of the email and the promotion.

Here are additional tips for handling emails that offer promotions or rewards:

Avoid Clicking Links: If an email seems suspicious, refrain from clicking any embedded links. These links could lead to phishing attempts or malware.
Verify Sender Address: Scrutinize the sender’s email address carefully. Phishing emails often mimic legitimate company addresses but may contain misspellings or unusual domains.
Hover Over Links (Without Clicking): Hover your cursor over any links in the email to preview the destination URL. This can reveal if the link directs you to a suspicious website.
Access Information Directly: For any promotional or reward-related email, access your account directly on the company’s official website or app (bypassing email links) to validate the information.
