Just a heads-up to everyone who posts here… scammers might message you privately saying they know someone who can help you get your money back for a fee. These are recovery scams, so avoid private advice and keep discussions in the open where others can help you spot scams.

They’ll probably ask for a deposit upfront and then block you once they get it.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Watch out, everyone!

Sounds like a typical advance payment scam to me.

Hey, just to clarify what an advance payment scam is… it’s when they ask for money upfront with some promise, like a service or product, but then disappear after you pay. Always be cautious with anyone asking for money before delivering what they promised.
@LORE
Good info, thanks!
Heads up, you didn’t blur out your name in the screenshot!

Right?! I was like, this scammer did NOT just call me broke.
This feels like a fake payment scam. Reminds me of those fake art commission scams.

There’s a scam like that where they pretend to need your photo or art for a project, offer to pay a lot, and then send a fake check. After you deposit it, they ask for money back for materials or something. By the time you realize the check was fake, your money is gone.

Yikes, good to know!
They’ll just ask for a deposit to book and then vanish.
Do tattoo artists even reach out to people like this?
I bet they use WhatsApp because it’s encrypted, so they don’t get caught breaking IG’s rules.
It’s probably a fake deposit scam. Real tattoo artists do sometimes ask for deposits, especially if they’re big names or traveling. But these scammers don’t actually plan to show up or do the work.
There was a similar scam mentioned here recently… someone pretending to be a tattoo artist and asking for gift cards as payment.
