Anyone else fall for this eBay 'Pre Order' trick?

I ordered an anime figure on eBay as a ‘pre-order’ back in June, paid $99.

The listing said it would ship in late September. I waited until October 31 and finally messaged the seller, but no reply at all.

Now I’m stuck because eBay only gives a 30-day return window, and my bank’s 30-day dispute window is closed, too.

This seller is still out there scamming people. Don’t fall for it!

How are they managing to avoid tracking numbers?

They marked it as ‘shipped’ but without tracking, right after I placed the order.

So they list it as a pre-order, set delivery far enough out to pass the dispute windows, then ghost the buyer?

@Aiden
Exactly. The account even has a 96% rating and has been active since 2002. I bet the scammer bought this account.

Classic scam tactic. eBay should really be cracking down on sellers like that.

If you can, try paying with a credit card or PayPal next time. PayPal has a six-month protection for ‘item not received’ claims.

If they’re still selling, you should report them to eBay.

I tried reporting them through the app, but the form keeps failing to submit. I’m waiting seven business days for the seller to respond, which they probably won’t.

Next step is calling eBay, but I doubt they’ll help much. I might have to go to my state Attorney General or even small claims court if this keeps up.

You should definitely complain to eBay about this.

I had the same issue. Never doing a pre-order on eBay again. I paid almost £100 for an amiibo that never arrived.

Once I realized the seller was ghosting me, I knew they probably never even had the item in the first place.
