A random person texted me… what now?

12/10: A random number texted me, and I thought it was just a wrong number. I figured the conversation would end quickly, but it didn’t. At first, it was kind of nice and even funny. But today, on the 12th, things started getting weird. The person said some stuff that made me uncomfortable.

I made the mistake of sending them a picture of myself (smh :man_facepalming:t5:) and told them my first name. Now I’m worried because they have both my picture and name.

Here are some screenshots of the chat.

Hey everyone, just a heads up for anyone new here… if you get private messages about hackers or recovery experts offering to help for a fee, they’re scammers. Always keep advice public so others can watch out for you. Stay safe and report any suspicious messages!

Why are you even replying to random numbers?

Just so you know, these ‘wrong number’ texts are often scams. They want you to reply so they can start a conversation and trick you later, sometimes into crypto scams or even worse. Best advice? Don’t engage and block them.

It was just a random text, but it sounded oddly specific… maybe it’s one of those scams where they pretend to know you?

@Kimberly
Exactly. It could be a scammer trying to act like they know you. They’ll build up trust and then eventually ask for money or personal info. Just block them to be safe.

How did you not realize this was a scam sooner?

Yeah, it’s usually pretty obvious. I get these all the time and like to mess with them before blocking. They usually give up when they realize I’m onto them.

@tradetroubleshoot1
I figured it out eventually… but I wanted to see how far they’d take it. Definitely a scam.

Normal people don’t just become best friends with strangers from a random text. It’s like something out of a cheesy movie, not real life.

Exactly. It’s so obvious when you think about it.

What a waste of time. Honestly.

Almost every wrong number text is a scam. Too bad this wasn’t like that grandma texting a stranger who became her friend for years!

These crypto scams are so sneaky. They take their time, build trust, and then try to sell you on some ‘amazing’ investment. Looks like they slipped up this time, though.

Yeah, but why would they say something like ‘you have trouble’? That part confused me.

Nothing good ever comes from engaging with scammers.

Not the classic ‘my friend took my phone’ excuse :woman_facepalming:.

I love leading them on to waste their time :joy:.
