So here’s the deal, someone comes knocking on my door at 3AM, and it’s super aggressive. The guy says he knows us and that his phone is in our house. My brother and I were totally confused because his knocking was intense, and his tone was aggressive too. We live in a bad area, so we were thinking it might be an attempted robbery. We stayed away from the door and were armed. He starts yelling about calling the cops, and we said ‘good.’ We called the cops too. When they finally arrived, we went outside to talk to them. The guy still insists his phone is in our house, claiming the ‘find my phone’ app says so. The cops ask him if he knows us, and he says yes. I have no clue who this guy is though. He was wearing a mask and hoodie. Oh, and we live in New York, and it’s freezing right now. Things got heated, and the cops basically told us to stop arguing and separated us. I’m still so confused. Was the guy drunk? On something? Or just acting crazy? I know I could’ve handled it better, but I was worried about my family being inside. Oh, and about him saying he called the cops before? The cops told us there was no call from anyone but us. I just don’t know… Was I about to get scammed or robbed, or did he really think his phone was here?

That sounds like a scam for sure, you could’ve been robbed or worse!
Wow, the cops seemed pretty laid back about it. But maybe because the guy stuck around until they came, they didn’t treat it as urgent.
I’m glad you and your family are okay. If his phone really was in your house, there might’ve been a better way to handle it.
That’s a known scam.
The phone was probably somewhere nearby, maybe next door, or even thrown in a trash can around the block.
I’ve seen similar doorbell videos on YouTube. What’s their end goal? A lot of these guys always have a partner and are so aggressive about the whole thing. I know I don’t have anyone else’s phone, so it wouldn’t work on me, and my husband’s a Droid guy anyway.
Banging on someone’s door at 3AM? That’s not an emergency, it can wait until the morning. I can see how this scam could lead to a robbery, but it’s just dumb if it’s not real.
Wow, someone knocking on your door at 3AM? That’s never good. GPS and ‘find my phone’ are usually pretty off on exact locations. Sounds like a scam, or maybe some wasted guy. Either way, be safe!
