Got a weird call and text about buying my house… anyone else getting this?

So, I got a call from a local number. The lady had a strong accent and asked if I’d be willing to sell my home at 18XX XXXXX Ave. I said no and hung up. Not even five minutes later, I got a text from someone claiming to be Jane from TRP Inc. She asked when would be a good time to talk about my property, saying it’s an owner-to-owner deal with no commissions.

I looked up both numbers. One is listed as a VOIP, and the other is a landline from some random provider.

I live in St. Louis, MO. Has anyone else experienced this?

If you’re new here, a heads-up: people might message you privately, pretending to help but asking for money. Don’t trust anyone messaging privately. Stick to the public comments where the community can help.

Let unknown numbers go to voicemail. Saves a lot of hassle.

In Philly, this happens all the time. Companies are always trying to flip houses. They’ll spam certain areas with calls, texts, and mailers offering to buy homes ‘as-is.’

They probably got your info from public records. If you own the property, your name and address are accessible to anyone. There are companies that flip houses or rent them out, and they buy lists of homeowners to target.

I’ve gotten a bunch of these calls and texts too. When I inherited a house after my mom passed, it got even worse because the deed transfer was public record. These people are relentless.

@Brittany
When my husband passed in June, the calls were endless. It was awful dealing with that on top of everything else. They’re like vultures.

Whenever I get these calls, I mess with them. I ask, ‘Are you naked? Because I am.’ Works like a charm—never get a second call!

Haha, that’s bold! I might try it next time. :joy:

Love it! I’ll have to use this.

Your property info is public, so they cold call tons of people hoping someone will bite. Even if they’re legit, they’ll offer way less than your home is worth. I usually give them a ridiculously high price to scare them off.

I live in an area where houses go for half a million. I tell them I want three million. Stops them every time.

Owning a home isn’t private—anyone can look it up. These buyers target certain homes, hoping to get a deal. Be cautious.

This isn’t a scam. They’re just trying to buy your house. Doesn’t mean you have to sell it to them though.

I used to get calls like this too. Turned out a friend thought it’d be funny to sign me up on real estate sites as a prank. Now I tell them to remove me from their list. Some sites even call you without verifying sign-ups—super annoying!

Yeah, this is super common. Not really a scam, just irritating.
